How to Cook Over an Open Fire
Learning to cook over an open fire can take some trial and error, but it’ll be an easy and delicious meal once you get the hang of it.
You can build a campfire to cook your breakfast with some tinder, logs, and sticks you find around your campsite. If you’re using just wood, make sure to collect enough that will last through cooking your meal. This is a great job for the kids!
Once the fire has gotten hot, you want to let the flames die down a bit before putting your food over the fire. Flames are okay, but the main thing is to not cook directly over a flame. Place your skillets, foil packets, or other cookware over indirect heat otherwise you’ll end up with food that is burned and cooked unevenly.
